Lower U Factor

Vinyl windows do a better job insulating your home than pultruded fiberglass windows. Unlike the pink fiberglass bats you see in your attic, which trap heat in small pockets, the frames used to make fiberglass windows are made out of compacted fiberglass which cannot trap any air, losing its insulating value. Studies show that fiberglass window materials actually transfer 3 to 4 times as much cold as equivalent vinyl window material.

Fusion Welded Corners

Regardless of what material a window is made out of, if the corners are fastened mechanically, by using adhesive, fasteners, screws, or any combination thereof, eventually, they will fail and leak. Fiberglass windows, by design, cannot be welded at the corners, as the scientific properties of fiberglass are such that two pieces of fiberglass cannot adhere to each other by fusion. That's why service issues with fiberglass windows are MUCH more frequent and severe than with vinyl windows. Need proof? Check out any well established fiberglass window company with the Better Business Bureau and see how many service related issues they have. The inability to weld fiberglass is a huge problem! You can actually break a fiberglass window at the corner with your bare hands—imagine what a harsh, Michigan winter will do to a fiberglass window when the house shifts from the extreme cold weather. For more information, watch the video. At WeatherGard, our commercial grade GardTech™ vinyl windows are so strong, you can stand on the fusion welded corner with no ill effects. We encourage you to come to our factory and see how we weld our windows, and even step on a corner!

Can Chip & Crack

Fiberglass is very brittle and can crack and chip very easily. WeatherGard's commercial grade GardTech™ windows are guaranteed against chipping and cracking for as long as you own your home!

Fiberglass Windows Require Paint - WeatherGard's Vinyl Windows are Maintenance Free!

The materials used to make the fiberglass resins that make up a fiberglass window are not stable when exposed to the suns ultraviolet rays, which means that, all fiberglass windows (even white ones) require maintenance and painting every few years Since fiberglass windows are painted, the finish is not resilient and very prone to scratching during assembly, shipping and installation.

Because they have to be painted, fiberglass windows are not nearly as maintenance free as WeatherGard's commercial grade GardTech™ vinyl windows.

High Rise Before & After - Alden Park Apartments

WeatherGard's GardTech™ commercial grade windows are so strong, as verified by AAMA, that we have even installed them on high rise apartments, like Alden Park Apartments, where we installed over 5,000 of our commercial grade GardTech™ windows.  If our windows can withstand the high winds of an eight story building on the Detroit River, you can bet it will be strong enough to protect your home.
